Y'know... when I feel like I am providing what is needed, that I'm doing a satisfactory job, I like my work.

It's when I feel like I am failing at my task(s) that I hate my job.

Staying late or working on the weekend to complete what is needed qualifies as feeling like failure, so that doesn't count as another category.

Pretty much, yeah. Feeling competent is a big part of job satisfaction.

Even so, some jobs are big enough, and some deadlines short enough, that extra work is needed. That's not necessarily a failure on the part of the worker, as it is an error in labor estimation and scheduling.
