warm fuzzy

'm not really in the mood for Rabbit Hole Day today. Maybe I'll participate next time if it's held again.

I'm beginning to accumulate scarves. I didn't used to wear them until I moved here, but now I grab a scarf and/or a hat nearly every winter day.
In order of acquisition:
1. Red and black woven acrylic that I bought a few years ago when I was up here visiting my relatives. 13" wide, over 5' long (longer than I am tall) plus 3" fringe, nice & soft. I happen to have this one at work today, so I'm able to measure it. I think this is my favorite scarf.
2. Multicolored jewel-toned loosely knit of "recycled" silk, purchased from a sidewalk vendor last year. About 5" wide, probably around 5' long, fringed, soft in the sense of very flexible, but not fuzzy. I like the look of this scarf best.
3. Fuzzy, hot pink acrylic knit scarf. Half of a hat+scarf set I was given as a child. About 7" wide but probably just 3' long. Wore the hat often enough that it's no longer fuzzy, but didn't wear the scarf until I re-discovered it last winter. Not long enough to wrap around my neck properly. I have gripes about the hat, too, but they're both warm.
4. Coppery-brown floral print silk or rayon thing that I got for Christmas 2003. Around 15" square, I think. The kind of thing that some women tie on to accessorize their business suits. Not my style at all -- never worn.
5. Ivory-colored woven wrap, labled "pashmina," but probably synthetic with a small percentage of cashmere blended in -- I forget the exact fiber composition. Purchased from a Chinatown shop for use at my cousin's wedding last fall. Thin material but extremely wide, maybe 4.5' to 5' long, fringed if I remember correctly. Can be worn as a shawl or bunched up to wear as a scarf. My most glamorous, but can get a bit bulky under a coat. Would like to get another of these in a brighter color.

I am learning the half-double crochet stitch by making a light blue scarf ("Monet print"). I intend to send it to one of my college friends, but I just may keep it. After that, I have a wonderfully bright yarn in rainbowy hues of scarlet, turquoise, yellow and magenta with which to practice double crochet. I am torn: I love the colors, but I know another friend of mine would like them too. Maybe I'll have to make two scarves. Maybe, after more practice, I'll have to install more hooks on my closet wall. At least they're a little easier to store than shoes!

Sounds like an interesting collection.

I have just one scarf, right now. A greytoned plaid made of lambs wool. It's not really long enough for my tastes, though, since I'm used to the Dr.Who-trail-to-the-ground type. My gran actually knitted me one like Tom Baker had in the Dr. Who series, when I was about 12. It was stolen by my oldest brother, when he ran off to visit friends in London, and he promptly lost it once he was there.

I've been meaning to have another one made, though. :)
