I came back from my one-week vacation to find not only the expected amount of work piled up for me while I was away, but also my department has gone into overdrive, because the state Department of Health came to inspect, found many faults, and ordered many Corrective Actions -- which means in-servicing all the staff on all the things they found wrong with the place. Also, they want to know how many staff have been taught this and what proportion have been trained in that, and it falls to me to come up with these counts. Thus I've been working until about 6 PM most days of the past couple weeks, til 7 this past Tuesday. And I'm sick of it. I am worn out. I have worked enough extra hours this pay period that I could take Friday off, except that there's so much work to do that I can't. I can't blame my boss, either, which almost makes it worse. It wasn't her idea to dump all this stuff on us, but she's dealing with it and the rest of us have to as well.

Anyway. No, Mom and Dad, I haven't cracked the book about studying for the GRE. No, I haven't looked for jobs, though at this moment I'm anxious to get a better one. I just don't have the energy when I get home to do much of anything. The dirty dishes are piling up in the sink again. The mail since the weekend has sat on the couch unread.
