and more snow
Jan. 23rd, 2005 09:42 pmThe blizzard swept in yesterday afternoon and remained for several hours. The snow this time fell in granules, like sugar. I think that's supposed to be good for skiing? Anyway, we got around 10 or 12 inches of it, I think.
Snowstorms seem to bring out a neighborliness in people. Any random person you encounter is likely to wish you a safe trip home. At the supermarket, the woman at the deli counter inquired whether I walked in or drove. As I was cleaning off my car and my parking space today, a woman from the next building lent me her ice scraper/brush. Other people passing by offered me the use of their snow shovels (I went inside to get my own a little later). For my part, I shoveled out the car of my downstairs neighbor. When I happened to meet her a few days ago, she mentioned she'd had surgery recently, so I figured she might not be in a condition to do this for herself. On the other hand, her car is a Toyota Highlander -- a pretty large vehicle -- and she had prudently parked it facing out of the parking space, so I'm not sure how much shoveling it really needed. Oh well, for what it's worth. At least I got a little exercise.
