Had a creepy dream early this morning. Nothing fantastical, which I think is unusual for me; it had something to do with getting up and finding my apartment door unlocked, the chain cut as if with bolt cutters. When I woke up for real, I was relieved to realize that the previous time I had "woken up" had been a dream. It faded from memory pretty quickly, leaving only that fact.

I purchased a jump rope today. It's of the sort intended for adults, with tubular plastic beads strung on cord. While removing it from the packaging, I noticed a warning printed on the back of the cardboard.

"Warning: Consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. Exercise programs of any kind present an inherent danger to the participant. Serious or fatal injury can occur. All equipment is intended to be used by adults and only in the manner shown/illustrated/described. Anyone under the age of 18 should have adult supervision. Always follow instructions (if included). Always use proper techniques and common sense when exercising. Always check your equipment thoroughly."

No illustrations or instructions were provided for the jump rope. I came across the colorful, glittery kiddie versions before I found the adult kind, but I didn't check whether they had illustrations, instructions, or similar warning labels. I wonder what incident inspired such a warning. Self-strangulation? Getting tangled in the rope and falling, resulting in "serious or fatal injury?" Heart attack due to excessively strenuous activity?

Anyway. I tried it out in my living room, without shoes. Jumping is pretty quiet, so not likely to disturb my neighbors, but it makes big waves in the fish tank. I guess I'll just have to use it outdoors.
