follow-up to the food meme

serenissimaIn regards to my last entry -- I traced the meme back to its origin with lysana and the BBC's "50 things to eat before you die," so it's not necessarily meant as a list of exotic foods so much as tasty dishes. I think. At least, knowing the context is British helps explain a few things.
Listed items of note:
11. Moreton Bay bugs / Balmain bugs / slipper lobsters -- these are not, as I supposed, the big clawless orange-and-blue lobsters, but something else. Either way, I'm not especially inclined to go cook one.
29. American diner breakfast -- The BBC page says, "Think pancakes and maple syrup, waffles, fried potatoes (aka ‘home fries’), eggs, bacon, ham and sausages for starters." I've had all of the above separately, as well as grits. I'm not too fond of grits and ham, and I can take or leave the sausages and hash browns, but I like pancakes, waffles, bacon and fried eggs. Also french toast.
43. Octopus -- A couple of years ago, my father took our family to a Greek restaurant, and "oktopodi" was among the appetizers. My brother and I were curious enough to try it and, to my surprise, it was delicious. It had a rich flavor similar to pork. The texture was somewhat springy, but not at all off-putting to me. (I was already familiar with and liked squid.)
50. Cornish pasty -- these sound like samosas but with a thick pie-like crust. I shall add them to my want-to-try list.
Foods that weren't listed that I think people should try:
Fried battered okra, Peking duck (or other roast duck), tiramisu, lox with bagels & cream cheese, tapioca tea / bubble tea / boba, fried catfish, Mexican food, funnel cake, smores... that's all that comes to mind at the moment.
Food I'm curious about: rabbit and goose. I have had frog legs, but I was so young I don't remember how they tasted except that I found nothing objectionable about them. Since then, frogs and several other types of wildlife in that area have been exterminated, due to pesticides.
