Arrived at Moonbase Bravo! Currently in the motel; moving in to the house tomorrow. Moving truck is supposed to bring stuff tomorrow, too -- nice timing. Home sweet home's aesthetics look to be circa 1965, but it is spacious compared to my apartment.
Surrounding terrain has a small mountain range on one side, rather flat in all other directions. Local plants are almost entirely unfamiliar to me:
403, I could use some advice about container gardening in a desert. I've met grackles before, but the jackalopes are new and fun.
Should have Internet up and running in a day or two. Will probably have more to say by then.

Desert container gardening
Date: 2007-09-11 05:40 am (UTC)* Water stuff when it feels dry, below the surface soil. Most plants will require watering every day or two, depending on the size and material of the pot. (Terra cotta dries out faster.)
* Not all of the succulents commonly found in stores are desert-hardy. Watch them closely for the first few weeks to determine their real water needs.
* In summer, it's best to water plants in the evening, after it starts to cool off. (Especially in the sun; 100+F with extra water available will basically slow-cook the roots.) In winter, mornings are a better time. (Winter is generally the least humid part of the year, so regular watering is still important.)
* Watch for frost advisories around Dec - Feb. They're rare, but they happen.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Feel free to ask more specific questions.
