This morning I visited an employment agency. I had an appointment at 10 am, and half an hour previous to that they called me and informed me that they do not provide technical jobs, all their jobs are clerical or administrative. I went and registered anyway, even though their "orientation video" seemed to be intended for people with the level of understanding of 6th graders. Maybe I'll do some office work temporarily.

Went to visit the D's, my neighbors across the street, this afternoon. I took my photo album for a little show-and-tell. Mrs. D enjoyed looking through it. She thinks my boyfriend is cute. :) She has severe arthritis, which makes life difficult for her and her husband: she doesn't leave the house, and he has to take care of her all the time. It's a sad situation, and happened in what seemed to me a sudden way, within a matter of months. Before that she was getting around fine. She's been housebound now for a few years... maybe three or four. My grandparents are quite mobile by contrast, and they're some 10 years older than the D's. Funny how life works sometimes. It's too bad that I live so far from them, I hardly see them.

Tonight I watched a program about the day-to-day workings in Vatican City. It showed the historic buildings, artifacts, etc. I must admit that I take pride in belonging to such an old Church. I like the idea that my denomination has a history that goes back not hundreds but almost two thousand years. It makes me feel part of something important. Similarly, I like that my Church is a worldwide organization with a central authority. Now, if only I could tailor its rules a little to match my own ideas. Events of the past couple of years have highlighted the fact that I don't agree with everything the Church does... yet I am unwilling to leave it. It provides community, and I agree with the core beliefs. It's the "extras" built up around the core that I have a few problems with. This may make a good topic for subsequent entries....

This afternoon I saw a wild hummingbird for the first time in my life. I looked out the bathroom and saw something fluttering among the leaves. At first I thought it might be a falling leaf or an insect, but it was a little green bird that hovered and flitted around. I wonder what it was doing there. There weren't any flowers for it to eat from.
