Lightning crashes!

Monday evening we had another pretty storm, with thunder and pouring rain, again at around 7 pm. This summer is my state's fifth in a row of drought. I remember when I was little there were brief storms almost every summer afternoon, but now they're infrequent. My computer seems to have been injured by the storm. It won't turn on -- the fan spins, but there's no video signal and no diagnostic beeps either -- and if the modem is plugged into the phone socket, the phone line behaves as though there's a phone off the hook. I hope fixing things won't be too inconvenient or expensive. I hadn't backed up much of anything.
