interview, concluded
Mar. 25th, 2004 02:39 pmI want to write, but I'm kind of floundering for a topic. So I've decided to answer the interview questions
403 asked me last August.
Describe something that really annoys you and why.
My work hours annoy me, because when I get home in the evening I'm too tired and there's too little time before bed for me to do much.
Impatient drivers who honk at the slightest delay also bother me.
Ooh, I know -- nervous laughs. People who make stupid jokes to fill what they perceive as an uncomfortable pause in conversation.
If anything you chose could be drawn/painted/etc by the artist of your choice, who and what would you select?
What would I commission if I could have any work from any artist? This is a very difficult question, mostly because I'm not very familiar with the work of various artists.
I like Impressionist paintings, particularly those of Renoir, but probably not for the same reasons that the artists themselves painted: I find them soothing. I remember seeing some miniature Arabic artwork in a museum, decorations for scriptural verses maybe, that struck me with its intricacy, vibrant color, and level of detail. I've looked at Michael Whelan's website and he's great technically, although I admit the initial draw was his fantasy-themed subject matter. After watching a documentary about Ansel Adams, I was reminded how much I like nature photography.
Off the top of my head, I'll say a small sculpture, such as the angel statue in the book From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Maybe I would even choose a statue of an angel. But really, given a lot of time to consider, I think I'd choose a very large-scale piece of art -- a statue or a big oil painting -- and I'd have it put on display in a public place, and just keep a print for my own home.
