How I did with my to do list:
  • Find the DVD I borrowed. Done.
  • Clean the living room. Not done. Clean laundry is put away, but the piles of papers haven't been touched.
  • Wash the dishes. Done.
  • Get groceries. Done.
  • Enter receipts into Quicken. Not done.
  • Burn stuff on Zip to CD. Not done.
  • Move the modem to the new computer. Done, but fruitless because it doesn't work: the computer doesn't detect a dial tone, although there is one if you pick up the receiver and listen. Have contacted cable modem company; expecting call back today, maybe installation next week?
  • Get mats from the craft store. Done.
  • Hang artwork. Not done.

This month, my bank is sponsoring free admission for one adult to a number of local museums. I meant to go out and visit some for the past two weekends, but didn't. I was feeling rather grumpy Monday evening after my relatives asked me what I did over the weekend and I told them "housework, and sitting around." Have resolved to change that pattern. Planning to visit two museums this weekend to make up for lost time! :)

Saw "Kill Bill Vol. 2" last night with Chris. I kind of enjoyed it. That may be surprising considering that I had my eyes closed for half of Vol. 1, but I kind of enjoyed the parts I watched of that volume, too.

I'm mulling whether to get a gym membership. There's a Bally Total Fitness club not too far away from me. According to the website, it looks like they offer a basic membership of $135 one time fee + $19 per month. I think that's doable, but I'm not sure it's worthwhile. I'd probably just use their treadmills and/or stationary bikes. There really isn't a nice place to walk very close to me, but I could drive to a park as easily as driving to that gym. On the other hand, it's going to be too hot to walk outside in the summer, and it's too cold in the winter. Hmm.

The weather differential was one of the reasons I signed up to a gym. There's also music and TV in many, to keep you're mind occupied while you're exercising your body. One of my friends even reads a book while on the stationary bikes, which I think one would struggle to do on the streets. <:) OTOH, my idea that paying out the monthly fee (which is quite a bit higher than yours, yet still one of the cheapest around) would force me to go regularly hasn't really worked out. In weeks I don't make it for one reason or another, I tend simply to get both annoyed with myself and annoyed at the loss of money, rather than trying harder to do something about it. Then again, that's just me. ;)

computer doesn't detect a dial tone

First, plug the cable into a different socket. Modems often have designated 'wall' and 'phone' sockets which have to be gotten right for the computer to hear anything. Second, try a different cable. Maybe the one you have is damaged.. though if the phone is plugged into the modem and still gets a dial tone, that's a big maybe.

If you've tried all that, yeah, go for broadband or wireless or something.
