The skin infection cleared up after a few days of antibiotics, in time for me to look and feel fine at my cousin's birthday party last Sunday.
For a variety of reasons, I've been getting home late for the past week or two, so rather than taking time to poke around on the web in the evenings, it's been pretty much just dinner & bed for me, with occasional stints of dish washing and laundry. Also, the last couple of weeks were very hot, and I slept in the living room where the AC is. My bedroom became just a place to change clothes. The heat wave seems to have ended yesterday afternoon; a wonderfully refreshing breeze was coming in my windows last night.
I haven't played Guild Wars in weeks. It hasn't become the timesink that I thought it might. Not that it isn't fun, but when I want to do something recreational and entertaining, I usually prefer to play a game or watch a movie with Chris. I haven't gotten my chars out of the newbie area yet, so Guild Wars is still a solitary activity. Tangentially, we watched "Howl's Moving Castle" and it did not nearly do justice to the book.
Our little D&D game that we started around the beginning of the year is also kind of stalled, because I don't want my character to do the wrong thing and mess up, so I'm afraid to have her do anything. I do need to take the game less seriously. At present, I'm in the home of a Dr. Moreau-like wizard/scientist guy. Instead of killing him the first chance I got, I wanted to look around for evidence to prove he was bad and deserved death. I've found a little, but now I have to face his servants as well as the wizard himself. I also worry about who will take care of all his weird creatures if I kill him. In the larger picture, there's a war on, and my friends and family want me to remain safely at home -- which makes for a pretty boring story. It's tough to be an adventurer and a Good Girl at the same time. :p It's a gaming style my GM hasn't encountered before.

Date: 2005-06-16 06:55 pm (UTC)I also understand what you mean about not doing online or video games as much as wanting to spend time with a loved one. There are often times I wish I could sit Purrzah down to do a game around here, instead of one or the other of us not being in the right frame of mind for doing something like that. I'm hoping to be able to get her and Digi into a habit of movies on Thursday nights, and either a board game, or RP on Monday nights; which would still leave them Tuesdays for their collectable card games.
As for the D&D game, I'd say that you're learning what it means to be guided by your character. ;) Though, if you don't like the more recent way she's changing the style of rp, and if other players or the GM are getting upset about it, then you should sit down and talk with all of them... maybe you need a sideline adventure that will help her change this cautious/analytical(?) way. There are myriad options, and for now, dealing with the servants and what to do about the animal experiments sounds like more work for the GM, but also more fun and experiences for you and your friends.
(And, in all honesty, if the GM is what Gary Gygax himself called a "Good Game Master", then he'll love being challenged by your group's characters.)
Best of luck with the game, and I hope things keep looking up for you.

Date: 2005-06-16 09:00 pm (UTC)Chris is trying to prod me along with prophetic dreams and other stuff, like this wizard-hunt. My char's little brother gave me a talking flying cat, which promptly asked me to go kill its creator. So here I am. :)
