It's one of those things that I tend to think of as only happening on TV, never to me, and so I feel that tinge of surreality....
The property of my apartment complex is bordered by a small waterway which is honored by being called a river. An entire week of rain has grown it to a size more fitting to its name. My dinner last night was interrupted by firefighters ringing the doorbell to tell us that the river was rising fast enough that we all needed to evacuate. I packed some clothes and spent the night at my aunt & uncle's house. It's an inconvenience. According to the National Weather Service, the water level is expected to peak tonight around 2 AM and subside to a non-flooding level by 7 PM tomorrow, though apparently that fluctuates, as it's below the official flood level right now. I'd like to go see for myself how high the water gets tonight, but I suppose that wouldn't be safe. Hopefully I can go home tomorrow night. Meanwhile, I'm at work as usual!
EDIT 9 PM: Water has receded, I am home.
