office work
Jun. 17th, 2003 03:00 pmI seem to be at a lull this afternoon. I haven't been given very many duties at work yet, since I've only been here for a week. I think that what I have been given, I've gotten down pat by today. I'm an administrative assistant, so my work is semi-mindless administrative stuff, requiring my attention and some organizational skill but not much creativity or cleverness. It's not bad, though. I think the oddest thing is that one of my co-workers advised me to keep a stash of toilet paper and paper towels at my desk, because the bathroom sometimes runs out and is not replenished for a while. In fact, my predecessor left some of these supplies in the desk... as well as a paperback novel, a pair of plastic "Men" and "Women" bathroom placards, and a VCR remote control. O.o
As I said previously, my building is next to a large park -- in fact, next to the formal flower garden section of it. But since I started I have stayed indoors for lunch. Most days I've brought leftovers for lunch, and I just haven't bothered to go outside. It is a pity because this room doesn't have a window (again!). There is no office dog either, of course, this being a hospital setting, but my cousin's dog at home makes up for that. I bought a small plant to sit on my desk. I hope it will get enough light here.

Date: 2003-06-18 07:08 pm (UTC)Not sure what's going on at Isle of Man Newspapers. I e-mailed the news editor to check she'd received my resume and discovered she'd only just returned from a month's sick-leave. She said she'd check whether any colleagues had opened my letter in her absence and let me know.
I haven't heard anything since, so I suspect this particular opportunity may have slipped through my fingers. Ah, well -- I wasn't quite ready to move yet, anyway. :)
