I didn't do this in 2004, the last time I did it was 2003. I'm going to change a few of the questions to include last year as well as this year.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Not much. Heh. Oh -- at the beginning of the year, I booked an appointment for a hair cut with a salon instead of just walking into a Supercuts. Does that count?

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make resolutions last January, but I will set some goals for the coming year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I think one of my cousins on the other side of the world had a new baby some time in the past several months. I wasn't notified at the time of the birth, but last I knew she had two children, and now she has three.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year, but my oldest aunt passed away in 2004.

5. What countries did you visit?
I didn't leave the country this year. In the summer of 2004, I visited Niagara Falls with my family, so we were in Canada briefly.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A career.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can't think of any particular date that memorable.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
A rather subtle achievement: establishing a little more independence. I took the GRE, but now that I've taken it, it doesn't seem like a big deal.

9. What was your biggest failure?
In the summer, I resolved to get a new job by the end of the year. I did not follow through.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
A couple of skin infections, and pneumonia that had me out of work for a week. Nothing life-threatening.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Pet fish.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lots of people close to me, in small ways.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The president of my country.

14. Where did most of your money go?
I don't think it was "most," but a plurality went to paying the rent.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I didn't get really, really, really excited -- I very seldom do -- but practicing inline skating was fun. Also, I get a little excited about my fishies.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
There's no song that sticks out in my mind from this year. On the radio, I tend to listen to public radio or the classic rock station, so there's not much new stuff.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i) happier or sadder?

I think sadder. Hard to say.
ii) thinner or fatter?
About the same.
iii) richer or poorer?
Again, about the same.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I have to answer the same as before: researching what I want to do next with my life, and arts and crafts. Also, walking.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Lollygagging.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it with my family at my aunt & uncle's house.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
No, but I remained in love.

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Alas, my TV doesn't work: I get no reception, and I refuse to pay for cable.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anybody.

26. What was the best book you read?
Sad to say, I didn't read many books, yet what I did read doesn't stand out in my mind. At a bookstore sale I purchased a novel, _The Secrets of Jin-Shei_ by Alma Alexander, and that was all right.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I thought I liked samba music, so I purchased a samba sampler (one of the "Rough Guide" albums), and I found that samba music is slower than I thought, and I don't really like it much. That was an important discovery.

28. What did you want and get?
A fish tank. A new cell phone. Lots of time spent with my boyfriend.

29. What did you want and not get?
A digital camera. A new job.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Gosh, I'm losing track of what I saw when. Haven't watched so many movies lately. Um... "Batman Begins" was good. Harry Potter #4 was fine. But there's got to be more than that. I'll have to come back and edit this answer later. :)

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went out to dinner with relatives at a fancy restaurant. I am in my twenties.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Deciding on and embarking on a career path, instead of treading water.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Comfortable with an occasional touch of whimsy.

34. What kept you sane?
Weekends. My boyfriend.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I won't answer this, on the grounds that I didn't watch enough TV to see enough faces to fancy one.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably the inadequate response to Hurricane Katrina, with the occupation of Iraq in second place.

37. Who did you miss?
Different people at various times, but I think my brother most of all. Fortunately he's here visiting for the holidays.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I met hardly any new people. I met my cousin's girlfriend about a year ago; I like her. I met [livejournal.com profile] daisho in person for the first time in 2004, if we're going back that far. He's pretty cool.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
If you don't have time to iron a whole hamperful of clean laundry, you can just do one or two items of clothing in each session.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I can't think of something appropriate, but I felt this year was rather mediocre for me, especially the latter months. I may come back and edit this answer too if an appropriate song lyric suggests itself to me.

Happy new year, folks. May 2006 be better than 2005. Health, prosperity, good cheer and general blessings to you.
