quotidian mundanity
Jan. 18th, 2006 01:32 pmLately I have been just okay. I had off from work on Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and a three-day weekend is almost like a mini-vacation, so that was nice. I went in to work for four hours on Sunday to finish up the reporting of data that I didn't quite manage on Friday. My boss has my draft of the quarterly/annual report now, so I'll just need to make whatever revisions she needs and type up her portion. I'm glad I got that done pretty much on time, but there is still a significant amount of data entry left from 2005 that didn't need to go in the report but should be entered to be accurate. One never knows when we may need that information later.
I wonder whether I should keep coming in on weekends. I feel more relaxed and I think I'm more productive during my weekend hours than during my regular hours, but I don't get paid for my extra time and I have to pay the toll and the parking fee. Last year, the data entry that I postponed because it wasn't needed for the annual report never got done at all: I moved on to 2005 things and never got back to the leftover 2004 stuff. I don't want that to happen again. My thought is that by working extra time, I reduce my workload and with it my stress level, because I've been feeling stressed for the past few months. I haven't concluded yet whether it's worth while.
Monday afternoon I spent about two hours in Barnes & Noble, looking for something good on which to spend a gift card I received for Christmas. I wanted something I would read more than once, which rules out a lot of the merchandise. Eventually I settled on a book of crochet square patterns -- the squares can be assembled into blankets, pillow covers, etc. Then yesterday I found out it's $7 cheaper from Amazon. I'm peeved about that, but all the books on my wish list are cheaper from Amazon than from Barnes & Noble, and I've gotta spend the gift card on something. Oh well.
I haven't gone skating or walking in several days due to the weather, which has been alternately rainy or too cold. Actually, Monday wasn't bad, but Chris and I were feeling lazy. Today is wet and blustery. Tomorrow looks to be all right, so hopefully I'll be able to walk during my lunch hour.
