Quick update
Feb. 6th, 2007 01:05 pmI brought some CDs to work. I'm listening to Paul Simon's Rhythm of the Saints. I love the percussion in these songs, especially the opening bars of the first track, "The Obvious Child."
Not much going on this week. I've been exchanging emails lately with a couple of old schoolmates whom I haven't heard from in years. It's good to reconnect.
I'd like to take some training in how to use MS Access, for work. I think a properly set up database would make my job much easier. But it's not something I can figure out on my own with just the built-in help files to guide me. I've tried. The setup I need would be kind of complicated.
Unfortunately, my boss has been stalling on authorizing me to go to a seminar on the subject; she says she has to look at the budget, and the next session of the class I have in mind is the day after tomorrow. I have a feeling I won't be going anywhere. I can probably get approval to take an on-line training module of some kind (and have it paid for by my department). I would have liked the opportunity to consult with the teacher, though. I seem to learn better from having someone talk at me than from reading books. Too bad I didn't ask for this a couple years ago, when money seemed to be not quite so tight.
One point The Alchemist made is that just because you don't seem to have been making progress for a while, that does not mean you should give up. You might be on the right track without realizing it, doing what you need to do, learning what you need to learn. And even if you're not, you can continue pursuing your goal at any time.
