So, about twelve hours ago I looked out my front door and saw this:

That was up to mid-thigh, there (not that I was in it, but I saw people evacuating from the building). The water went a little higher than that before subsiding. Sorry I didn't get a photo of the flood condition at its worst, and in the daylight. I forgot my camera and my cell phone charger at Chris' place, and my cell phone battery ran out this morning.
About an hour ago, when the water went down to no more than ankle-deep, I went out to the parking lot. I found my car resting at an angle of 30 degrees to the sidewalk. I guess it must have floated. It was one of only two cars remaining in the parking lot -- everyone else must have been smart enough to move their cars! Also, all the doors were unlocked and the driver's side window is down. I wonder how that happened?
The water line is up to about mid-back on the seats, up to the air conditioner controls on the dashboard. Every horizontal surface below that is muddy. Water seeped into the glove box. I removed everything still good: umbrellas (muddy), the CD holder on the visor, pieces of palm from Palm Sunday, everything from the trunk that was inside the Rubbermaid tub. My rollerblades were not in the tub. I'm really going to miss them. There's still a CD and a cassette tape in the stereo system; I wonder if those can be extracted intact.
Yeah, my car is just so much trash now. :( It served me well and faithfully....
Of course, that probably doesn't even compare to the property damage/loss suffered by first floor tenants.
