Why is it that most of the online journals I come across contain mostly complaints? Do people write more when they're in a bad mood? Or are most journal-keepers depressed people? Or is it that most of the people I know online are depressed people/whiners?

My life does not suck. It's beautiful weather this week. My comp project is moving along nicely. And while I haven't really been looking for a job and don't have one lined up, I have lots of things to help me as soon as I decide to attack that problem.

I bought an old used laptop for $50, a Compaq Armada 4120 if that means anything to anyone. I'm going to send it to Chris so he can write while at work. It's currently running Debian Linux, but he can install Win95 on it -- Win98 would probably overburden it.

Meanwhile, he bought a camera for me. My current camera is a cheap auto-focus thing that's at least eleven years old. It gets the job done, but it's no good for close-ups. Ideally, I'd want an SLR small enough to fit in my pocket, but able to support add-on lenses like a macro lens, with battery-powered film advance and rewind, and both auto-focus and manual focus, and automatic sensing of film speed (which shouldn't be too tough because even my old $20 cheapie does that). I may ask Dad to have one of his two old Minoltas fixed for me as my graduation present. They're not automatic anything, totally manual, but they're kinda neat and he has a couple of lenses for them. They're also older than me. :) Then I'd have the one Chris is getting me for most uses and the SLR for artsy-type stuff, like pictures of bugs.
