Commuting in winter is a disheartening thing. In the morning I have to scrape the ice off my car windows before setting out; by the time I leave work in the evening the sun is setting, and I arrive at home after dark. On the plus side, there was a beautiful full moon as I drove home tonight. The sky was perfectly clear, and I could see the shadows on the lunar surface.

Dry weather today followed a wet Saturday. I went for a walk in the rain that morning. I wanted to look at the colorful trees around the neighborhood, but I noticed the drowning earthworms more. On one driveway there was a 14 inch long worm, which made such an impression on me that I took a picture of it.

It would be nice to know what I'm worth as an employee. From my experience over the summer, I get the impression that I'm only qualified for a very low-level job, paying less than $30 thousand a year, but I hear about new graduates -- in magazines, for instance -- with engineering degrees who step right into higher paying jobs. What do they have that I don't? A high GPA, maybe? Connections and contacts? I don't mind not knowing what to do with my life, because I think that's normal for someone my age, but I'd like to know how high my expectations should be for the next couple of years.
