long luxurious weekend
Sep. 5th, 2005 12:36 pmI've been having a wonderfully idle couple of days. The weather has been glorious: sunny and warm but not really hot, with occasional refreshing breezes. My parents finally shipped me my Rollerblades, and I tried them out at the park Saturday morning, accompanied by a very patient Christopher (not on wheels). I went slowly and carefully, and I fell once intentionally and once unintentionally -- the latter for the first time, though I expect more tumbles before I get the hang of it. I still don't know how to stop in a controlled way.
I bought some yarn for making scarves. I borrowed a couple novels (Lindsey Davis, The Course of Honor and Silver Pigs) from the library and read them in large gulps. I ate five peaches in three days -- need to get some more of those. I checked my preferred pet store for fish, but the kind I want were out of stock.
Yesterday we went to the Labor Day weekend sale of a large used bookstore in the city. Chris bought two shopping bags full of books, which must have weighed some 25 pounds each. Unfortunately for him, the car was parked a dozen blocks away. For my part, none of the books on clearance appealed to me; I found one not on sale that looked good, though I basically picked it by its cover.
Today it's time to take care of that practical stuff I've been putting off: laundry, maybe get some more groceries, etc. My apartment always needs tidying. I should scan through some online job postings and see what's out there.
