The problem with arriving home late is that driving home means I'm pretty wakeful, and it's hard for me to settle down to bed on time. I actually have my watch set to beep at 9 PM, to remind me to start winding down. When my watch beeped tonight, I had gotten in about 20 minutes previous, set down my bags, fed the fish, and was checking my email. Had not yet eaten.

I finished up the last part of the last problem of my math homework, which was due today, at the very end of class. Go me. :) Met yesterday evening with a classmate to work through most of it. That helped a lot.

Ash Wednesday is tomorrow, and with it comes my annual meatless stint: I've been giving up meat, except on Sundays, for Lent for the past few years. Seafood is permissible, but I tend not to purchase it often because of expense. (And I don't care for tuna.) Today I brought home from work half a chicken quesadilla, because that was one of the lunch specials and they were huge, as well as a sho pao* (spelling?) with a meat filling that one of my coworkers gave me. If I don't eat those tonight, they'll have to wait until Sunday. But I don't feel like eating them tonight. I want ramen. So I'm having ramen.

*Sho pao is a steamed bun, made from wheat flour, with a spoonful of savory filling in the center. It is white, and because it is steamed and not baked, it has no crust. Generally I only like the bread part and not the filling.

Thinking about how, as a kid, I used to tear off and eat the bread part of the sho pao and leave over the filling, lead to thinking about people who tear off the crusts of bread ("the bones of the bread," as my mother jokingly says) and eat only the soft part. Which reminded me of the woman in the cafeteria who tore out the soft part of her bagel and ate only the crust with her choice of spread/filling, because she didn't want so many calories. I disapproved, silently: a waste of food.
