I'm sitting here staring at the webpages of various university departments, I have the phone numbers to some of the department advisors, and the prospect of conversing with them about their graduate programs makes me want to cry. I don't know why this is so hard for me, but it is.

I know how it is; I'm looking at GREs and the grad school route myself and feeling awfully at loose ends. Good luck.

For me, the GRE was by far the easiest thing about starting grad school. It's just another standardized test. ETS has a free, downloadable test-prep program; I played with it for a few days, located the nearest test center, and went in.

The hard parts are deciding what degree to shoot for, talking to people to set that up, getting together all the application materials (including personal statement *ugh*)... and then, of course, the actual schoolwork.
