Dust In The Wind

This past weekend was pretty blustery. I'd been told that February-March-April is the windy season around here. Well, anywhere else a windy day is just a windy day, but here the sand and dirt get picked up and blown everywhere. I think the lack of trees to break the wind and the relative sparseness of grass to hold down the soil make a difference. A bunch of trash from my neighborhood-under-construction -- plastic bags, plastic sheeting, pieces of cardboard -- was blown up against the chain link fence across the street and held there by the wind, making what I considered a mildly amusing scene. It's gone now. On Sunday afternoon, the sky was pale beigy-gray, almost a smoglike effect, but I'm pretty sure it was blown dust. Chris and I went out to eat and to the movies; I had dust on my face, in my eyes, in my hair, and even in my teeth because I dared open my mouth to talk to him while we were outside of a building. Now I know why cowboys covered their faces with bandanas.

By the way, "10,000 B.C." is a stupid movie. It does not have fun visual effects to redeem it. It's not even as funny as "Evolution."
