House sounds

serenissimaThis house doesn't seem to make settling noises as it cools at night. You know, the soft creaks and cracks one hears after the sun goes down. What we do get is due to the wind. Besides ordinary wind sounds rushing past the walls, the vents have some kind of cover or flap that bangs as if someone is dribbling a basketball on our roof, over the stove.
Right now there's a storm passing through -- at the moment it seems to be on the wane, but half an hour ago the storm door at the front was whistling like a teakettle. I could feel the draft as I stood behind the frame of the closed front door. I opened it to be sure the glass door was closed; it was.
