I suppose it says something about my disconnection from popular culture that I've never seen The Princess Bride, and don't know what it's about.

The problem with a movie that is so popular it inspires in-jokes among most of the people you know is that when you finally do watch it, it's been over-hyped and the experience is anti-climactic. This happened to me in 11th grade with "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

That said, even if you have heard all the jokes long before you've seen the movie, I think you'd find "The Princess Bride" at least mildly entertaining. Also, you'd know the original context of the lines. I once saw the last five-ten minutes or so of "Casablanca" and kept thinking, "Oh, so that's what that's from!"

I'll try to keep it in mind, if I ever end up in the same place as the DVD for a few hours. Can't guarantee I'll get around to it, though. The bar for me to watch movies is pretty high, just because it's so hard to passively pay attention for more than 15min at a time.
