We didn't get any trick-or-treaters at all this Halloween... but we did get a javelina. It came to eat our jack o'lantern.

My milk jug-and-pickle jar luminaries weren't bothered

Before the encounter

Partly munched-on jack o'lantern

The javelina ran away across the street when we opened the front door...

...but it came back after a few minutes. Photos were taken from the patio, which has a wall around it.

It didn't seem to mind the camera flash.

Eventually we threw the pumpkin into the vacant area at the end of the street, so we could all get on with our respective evenings without bothering each other.

It's very cute, what on earth is it?!!

It looks like a cross between a pig and a large rodent!

That's adorable! Is a javelina the same as a peccary?

Yes. This appears to be a collared peccary (or javelina).
