Textile questions
Jul. 6th, 2010 08:55 amFor any of you who know a little about working with knits:
I have a lovely, delicate and soft 100% alpaca sweater that I received as a Christmas gift a couple years back. I've never worn it because it has two large holes, one at the waist right above the ribbing, and another at the cuff, also right above the ribbing, as if the sweater had been snipped laterally with scissors, or perhaps began to unravel. (Is that what unraveling looks like?) I don't have yarn to mend the sweater with. Can it be salvaged by cutting off all the ribbing and hemming the fabric like any other piece of fabric, or will that not work? The knit gauge is slightly open and lacy, not very tiny and dense like a tee shirt. It's not a petite size, so the arms are too long for me anyway.
And... what would I use to hang up a blanket on the wall without putting holes in it, and with minimal damage to the wall?
