I feel like posting but not writing, so I figured I'd mention my favorite comics. I never used to read comics regularly because my family didn't subscribe to a newspaper. Then I found them on the web. :) I get hooked on comics for their stories. The writing is most important to me; artwork is secondary.

I check For Better Or For Worse by Lynn Johnston every morning. I've been following it, via the web, for at least three or four years now. I also read Freefall by Mark Stanley every day that it updates, which is three times a week.

Keenspot is great because it puts a lot of good stuff all in one place. I catch up on a different comic every day of the week, because it's more satisfying to read a week's worth of one than a day's worth of each of five. Mondays I read Gene Catlow. Tuesdays I read GPF. Wednesdays I read Schlock Mercenary. Thursdays are Suburban Jungle days, and Fridays are for Wandering Ones.

Last week I got hooked on another Keenspot comic, Alien Dice, one of [livejournal.com profile] syke's many "graphic novels in progress". I'm actually not impressed by either the artwork or the writing -- she's a pretty good artist, but the quality seems a little inconsistent, and the premise for the story is a bit cliched: a couple who cannot confess their love for each other because of pride/shyness/circumstances. But it's that very cliche that makes me keep reading. Oh, the delicious romantic angst! :) I read through the entire two and a half year archive in two days, like I usually do when I find a new favorite comic, and now I'm going to rotate it in my weekly lineup.

I guess I'll also mention some other comics that I don't keep up with. The artwork in Spellshocked's color images really is impressive, but it doesn't update often enough to keep me interested. Absurd Notions is a similar situation, which is too bad, because the artist ([livejournal.com profile] kevinpease) is an auld acquaintance from a.f.d. It's funny, well written and well drawn, but I stopped reading when the strip went on hiatus. Hmm... maybe I should check it out again.

[Edit: got caught up on Absurd Notions and will be checking it occasionally in the future.]

I used to read Sluggy Freelance during my first two or three years in college, but I didn't care for the "demonic kittens" storyline, and by that time I was reading a lot of other comics, so I dropped it. I also used to read Clan of the Cats, another Keenspot comic, but I think that went on hiatus too for a little while and it lost my interest at that point. I have to say, though, that it has good artwork.
