Well, I'm hired. This relieves me of one problem and presents another. It sounds like a good job, a job I will learn a lot from and may even enjoy. The company does billing and some management for small doctors' practices; I'd be entering patients and bills into the system part of the time and helping with their IT network part of the time. This will teach me plenty about network management or something along those lines.

But the longer I work here, the longer I'm away from my boyfriend. Consider: we've been a couple for two and a half years now. The amount of time we've spent together so far, visiting each other, adds up to a bit over ten weeks. That's two and a half months -- a month out of every year. A pretty crummy ratio if you ask me.

It's not fair that something that should make me happy (and I did jump up and down after I got the call) ends up making me feel trapped and torn.

I said I'd talk about carnivorousness, didn't I? My mother was slicing a piece of raw steak a few days ago while I happened to be in the kitchen, and even raw, the beef smelled good. That is why I can never be a vegetarian. I like eating meat too much. But I'm pretty happy with a meatless dinner, too, and I'm also aware that veggie meals are more efficient: the amount of land/energy used to raise enough meat for one meal can be used to raise enough vegetarian fare for ten meals. I think a good diet for me would be vegetarian most of the time and pig out on beef, pork, duck or chicken two or three times a week.
