Was browsing Amazon for a Bible, since mine is A) paperback, from 1989, and kind of beat up and B) at my parents' house. Came across this review. I think it's genuine, mostly because of the structure of the third sentence.
[rated one star out of five] Very Offensive!, February 3, 2004
Reviewer: A reader from Memphis, TN

As a strict & passionate, but long-illeterite (sic) Christian, I have never before read the book on which my religion is founded. Finding this book at a tag sale at my local church, I decided to give it a try. I'm not sure if this Bible is the same Bible that all those priests and stuff keep talking about, but I'm sure that it's not! THIS Bible is filled with sex and violence... not the good Christian values that I have come to expect from the writings of my own religion! This is an outrage, and I demand that this Bible be taken off the market in favor of the REAL Bible!

P.S. If anyone knows where I can find a WHOLESOME Bible, please tell me. I've looked through the ones at my church and it appears that they're using the OFFENSIVE Bible, and not the REAL Bible! (perhaps they can't find the real one)

Heh. Clearly, the confusion here has arising as a result of what I see as a fairly serious dichotomy between the fire-and-brimstone god of the Torah and his loving, caring counterpart in the Gospels. That's clearly an oversimplification, but that's what first impressions often are -- and such an impression might prevent one ever returning to a book, if one takes an instant dislike to it.

Frankly, I'm just pleased to see evidence of people out there, the reviewer included, who consider the core principles of Christianity more important than the dogma arising from a literal interpretation of the Bible. Go free thought! :)

That's a perspective I hadn't considered. :)

It probably wouldn't be the first thing to cross one's mind, it's true. :)

(And I did of course mean "arisen" rather than "arising". Oops!)
