Jul. 28th, 2003 01:49 pmI happened to be looking at the local movie listings and clicked on reviews for "Seabiscuit." These snippets of user reviews caught my eye:
Here is evidence of the poor writing skills of people in this country. If these people had blogs, their writing alone would be reason enough for me not to read them. Persons #1 and #2 need to brush up on rules for commas, specifically rules about phrases stuck into the middle of clauses. Person #1, if he's going to spell out "computer generated" anyway, should omit "CG." Person #2 needs to review spelling. Person #3 is simply being cheesy and overly dramatic. Fortunately, I haven't noticed anyone on my friends list suffering from these mistakes. :)
I think I'll start a list of things I might like to do someday. The first item on the list is to teach English in China -- this idea is inspired by joudama (
homasse). Also, hanggliding would be cool.
If you, like me are getting tired of all these CG (computer generated)fight scene...
This movie was terriffic. I don't really like horse-racing, however after seeing...
It was simple. It was pure. It was everything that the 21st Century is not, and...

Date: 2003-08-01 06:00 am (UTC)Perhaps you should teach English here. Lord knows there are enough folks who would benefit from it.
However, if you're hell-bent on an Asian excursion in which you teach English, Japan would be better for the following reasons:
1) You get to fly a giant robot to work.
2) All the people have giant eyes and funny hairstyles. You will
look incredibly exotic by comparison.
3) Attacks by ruffians, cyborg ninjas, and catgirl gangsters will
keep you physically fit.
4) Despite the aforementioned cyborg ninjas, it's safer that
clinging to a piece of aluminum and that-stuff-they-make-
parachutes-out-of hundreds of feet above the ground.
5) The yen is worth more over here than the RMB, and though you
can live like a queen in China, living like an upper-middle-
class person in Japan means bringing home more money.
6) People manifest strange mystical powers there, usually in
response to stress.
7) Kareoke is still considered vaguely cool there. `Nuff said.
6) Catgirls are there. Aliens. Robots. Therefore, 'diversity.'
Disclaimer:
I have purchased/rented several educational films (the Japanese word for educational film is 'anime,' their word for educational writings like textbooks is 'manga') about Japan so don't bother spouting BS about how Japan doesn't fight off a giant monster once a week.
